An analysis of 24.5 million MoT records obtained by consumer motoring champion, honestjohn.co.uk, has revealed that one in five cars registered in 2008 failed their first MoT, with testers most likely to fail cars from French firms Renault, Citroen and Peugeot.

UK drivers are being refused premiums by car insurers because of first-time motoring offences including driving with a mobile phone, research has found.
A survey by the AA covered eight unnamed insurance groups, and asked for quotes using a 40-year-old man driving a Ford Mondeo.
